TEAM EXPECTATIONS
It is the expectation of the coaching staff, athletic administration, and school administration that all members of the Ayala High School Track andField Team attend practices and meets on a consistent basis, adhere to all school, district, Sierra League, and CIF regulations, conduct themselves as positive representatives ofAyala High School, follow all team rules, and give due respect to all coaches, officials, and teammates.
The team members can expect the coaching staff of the AyalaHigh School Track and Field Team to plan and conduct well organized practices and meets, treat all team members fairly and consistently, and enforce all rules and regulations of the school , district, Sierra League, and CIF in accordance with accepted standards and requirements. The coaching staff will also communicate all necessary information to the team members on a consistent basis. The coaches, in cooperation with the Ayala athletic department and the Ayala Track Booster Club, will provide a system to make available all necessary facilities and equipment.
TEAM RULES
1. All athletes are required to attend 90% of all practices and meets to be eligible for a
varsity letter and/or a special award.
2. The requirements for a varsity letter is for an athlete to score 10 varsity level meet
points during the course of the season. Point values differ with the type of meets with
large invitational meets counting more than smaller dual meets. Relay points are di-
vided equally among the athletes participating in the relay. The coaches may also
grant letters at their discretion for athletes who, in their opinion, deserve a varsity let-
ter due to dedication to the program, injury incurred during the season, or any circum-
stance they deem necessary. Anyone becoming academically ineligible before the
end of the season will not be granted a varsity letter.
3. All athletes must be cleared for participation by the athletic trainer under the control
of the athletic director before participating in practices or meets.
4. Obscene and profane language will not be allowed and punishment will beat the dis-
cretion of the coaches.
5. All athletes must have a coach’s approval to leave a practice or a meet. Leaving early
without approval will resultin a loss of attendance for that day or dismissal from the
team if a repeated pattern is noted.
6. All team members must respect the property of all coaches and teammates. Stealing
or damaging team or a teammates property will result in punishment determined by
the coaches and schooladministrators. Punishment mayinclude dismissal from the
team.
7. All team member are expected to assist coaches in all duties related to track and field.
8. The coaching staff will dismiss from the team any athlete failing to conduct themself
in a manner acceptable to the coaching staff.
TRANSPORTATION
For travel to league meets during the school week, transportation will be provided by the school district. When district transportation is provide ALL ATHLETES MUST RIDE THE BUS TO AND FROM THE CONTEST. The only exception is for an athlete who gets the prior written consent of the principal based on a written request by a parent orguardian. Please note that this isan exception and not normal procedure. For travel to weekend meets transportation must be provided by parents. The coaches will assist with athletes who need transportation but it is expected that parents and athletes make arrangements for transportation on weekends. The coaches’ assistance is limited.
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT
Uniforms must be purchased from the track team. Due to CIF and national regulations all uniforms must adhere to specific restrictions andrequirements. Undergarments are also regulated by rules and any athlete wearing undergarments must get the coaches’ approval to wear it. Additional team related apparel will be available for purchase from the coaches. For practices all athletes must wear clean, appropriate practice shorts, t-shirt, socks, training shoes (not spikes), and track spikes. It is suggested that the athletes ask the coaches about the type of spikes to purchase. At the Parent Meeting/Practice on January 31st @ 8:00am on the track, a shoe vendor will be there to sell track shoes.
ATHLETIC TRAINER
The athletes will be directed to the athletic trainer for any injuries related to track and field. The athletic trainer is also in charge of athletic clearances and issues involving insurance. In most cases, injuries will be the responsibility of the athletic trainer. In any other situations the athlete will be the responsibility of the coaching staff. All athletes will be required to have a note from the parent or guardian to be excused from practices or meets due to illness or injury. Parent or guardian notes are valid for up to three days of excusal. Beyond 3 days a note from a medical professional is needed. Ill or injured athletes enrolled in the Period 6 Athletics class must attend and remain at practice or the meet until the end of Period 6 when they are in school. Athletes not enrolled inthe Period 6 Athletics class are asked to check in with the coaches at some point during the day to inform the coaches of their status when they are ill orinjured. Failure to attend orinform coaches of their health status may cause an athlete to be dismissed from the team and transferred out of the Athletic period.
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
Academic eligibility will be determined after each grading period. An athlete must maintain a 2.0 grade point average, receive an F in only one class, and not have more than one U in citizenship. Coaches cannot and will not assist in any issue regarding academic eligibility. It is the students’ and parents’responsibility to address any academic situations with the appropriate teachers and/or administrators. Any track team member losing eligibility during the season will forfeit their varsity letter and any special awards.
PRACTICES AND MEETS
All Ayala track and field athletes are required to attend practices, be prepared to practice, make a valid effort to do what is instructed by the coaches, and to complete all tasks assigned by the coaching staff. These tasks include assisting the staffin preparing facilities and equipment before practices and clearing and storing facilities and equipment at the end of practices. In-season practices will begin 15 minutes after the end of Period 5 for those athletes enrolled in Period 6 Athletics and those athleteswithout a Period 6 class. Athletes enrolled in a Period 6 class other than the Athletic class are expected to report to practice within 15 minutes after the end of Period 6. Athletes will be allowed to dress in the locker rooms at the beginning of Period 6 only. The athletes will be required to bring their personal property to the practice site. The locker rooms will not be available for the athletes after the beginning of Period6 due to a lack of supervision. Personal property brought to the practice site will bemonitored, but will not be the responsibility of the coaching staff. It is recommended that athletes not bring items of high value to school or practice. Athletes can use the lockers in the locker rooms by providing their own combination locks and using the large lockers available, but access to the locker rooms will not be allowed until the completion of practice when the coaches are able to leave the practice site and return to the locker room. The same locker room procedures apply to home and away meets also.
All Ayala track and field athletes are required to attend meets, be prepared to compete dressed in the required uniforms, and conduct themselves as representatives of Ayala High School. For meets the athletes are expected to assist the coaching staff in preparing for and conducting the meet by preparing facilities and equipment before the meet and clearing and storing facilities and equipment after the meet. The athletes are responsible for knowing their meet assignments and events. All athletes are expected to understand that an adequate warm up and warm down period is required for competition and it is their responsibility to work with the coaches to complete both tasks. At home and away dual meets the athletes are required to remain on the field at all times. They are not allowed to leave the field except for brief periods to use the restroom or to greet parents, relatives or friends. They are not allowed to sit in the stands unless specifically allowed by the coaching staff. Family and friends not on the Ayala track and field team are not allowed on the field at anytime. They must remain in the stands. For invitational or league meets the athletes are to remain in the stands in the Ayala team designated area (usually designated by the Ayala track tents). Family and friends are welcome to sit in close proximity to the designated area but are not allowed in the area where personal property and team equipment is located. In cases of extreme weather (sun and/or rain), the coaching staff will make appropriate adjustments to this rule to accommodate Ayala families and supporters. At invitational, league, or CIF meets athletes are not allowed on the track or field unless to compete. In those meets designated warm up and warm down areas are provided and Ayalaathletes must adhere to any requirements and restrictions in that regard. For Saturday meets when district transportation is not provided, parents are required to. Any transportation arrangements other than what assistance coaches can provide is the responsibility ofthe parents. Athletes are not allowed to be transported by persons other than responsible adults. Athletes are not allowed to leave a meet of any kind without the permission of the coaching staff.
The coaching staff will supervise all Ayala track athletes when district transportation is provided. No Ayala athletes will be left unsupervised upon arriving back at Ayala, so please arrange for prompt pick up after away week day meets.
Failure to comply with any practice or meet requirements will result in disciplinary action by the coaching staff or possibly dismissal from the team.
PARENTAL CONCERNS RELATING TO TRACK AND FIELD
All parents of athletes participating in the Ayala Track and Field Team are invited to join the Ayala Track Boosters Club. Membership is free and meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month during theseason at Ayala High School in Coach Pye’s Room: H-123. You are encouraged to participate in your student’s athletic experience at Ayala and your help insupporting Ayala track and field will be greatly appreciated.
Any parent with concerns relating to the Ayala Track and Field Team should address that concern to the Girls’ or Boys’ head coaches.They can contact the coaches via telephone at Ayala High at (909) 627-3584 during school hours. The Girls’ head coach is Mr. Pye and his extension is#2723. The Boys’ head coach is Mr. Don Uyeshima and his extension in #2628. If the coaches are not available at the time of the call please leave a messagewith the Ayala switchboard and every effort to return your call will be made. For concerns beyond thatcall the parent may contact the Ayala High School Athletic Director, Mr. Steve Martin at extension #2607.
