Mammoth High Altitude Camp

Ayala HS at Mammoth Summer 2009

Southern Section power rubs shoulders with Olympians!!

Just got back from Mammoth with 37 athletes and what a great week of training.  I'm sending a few pictures for you.

We were fortunate enough to be up there when Meb, Deena, Ryan and Sara.  They gave a running seminar at Shady Rest for all the teams that were in town, and afterwards, we were all given unlimited access to these great athletes where we could chat with them one on one.  Meb spent a great deal of extra time with our team, quizzed them, gave them prizes from his car.  All the athletes were very much into giving back to the sport.  Tremendous night.

We had some terrific performances this week.

We have a lot of new kids and several, SEVERAL sophomores taking a step up in a big way.  We can't wait for the season to start.

This is our  'Invitation Only' week away.  Every year, we take approximately 34-39 kids to Mammoth for High Altitude Camp.   We base our decision on several things: ability level (we will be running twice a day in altitude and on trails, therefore, athletes must be able to keep up and not get lost on the trails), injuries, attendance during the summer and the individual effort put forth during our summer practice sessions.

The cost of the camp  will be $360. This price includes transportation to and from Mammoth. accommodations (we will have five condos with chaperones in each one), breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as organized runs and activities. Our final night in Mammoth will be celebrated with a dinner at the fabulous Chart House (cost included in camp fees) and the always famous Un-Talent show.

Monday August 2nd, we will have a parent/athlete meeting in Coach Pye’s classroom, #H123, at 7:00pm in which we will pass out camp itineraries, packing lists, contact information and liability forms. One parent must attend – no exceptions.
